Internal Medicine at Scottsdale Ranch Animal Hospital

All of the veterinarians at Scottsdale Ranch Animal Hospital are very interested in internal medicine. We conduct extensive medical work-ups for each patient, and use information gathered from x-rays, laboratory tests, ultrasound images and other diagnostic data to develop an accurate diagnosis of your pet's medical condition. In addition, our veterinarians make use of continuing education seminars, as well as online databases and the latest veterinary journals, to remain at the cutting edge of veterinary medicine.

Radiology

Radiology at Scottsdale Ranch Animal Hospital

Scottsdale Ranch Animal Hospital utilizes the latest veterinary radiology technology to better treat your pet. Radiographs (x-rays) are one of the most useful tools when it comes to diagnosing your pet's medical and surgical conditions. X-rays are used to determine the location and severity of bone fractures, identify tumors and foreign bodies and determine their size and shape, and aid in the diagnosis of heart disease.

For your pet's dental care, we use the latest in digital dental x-ray equipment. High-quality, detailed x-rays of your pet's teeth and mouth allow us to accurately diagnose and treat dental problems and monitor the condition of your pet's teeth, gums and mouth.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a non-invasive diagnostic procedure that uses soundwaves to produce a detailed moving image of your pet's internal organs. Ultrasound procedures for pets are identical to the same procedures used in human medicine.

We frequently use ultrasound in the examination of the heart and abdominal organs. Ultrasound aids in the diagnosis of heart disease, easily detects abdominal masses and foreign bodies and helps evaluate organ function. It is also extremely useful in pregnancy examinations.

Ultrasound procedures at Scottsdale Ranch Animal Hospital are performed by Dr. Russell Greene, a board-certified veterinary internal medicine specialist.

Endoscopy

Endoscopy aids in the diagnosis and treatment of problems of the gastrointestinal (GI) and respiratory tracts. This procedure is often used when routine laboratory tests, radiographs and ultrasound do not give a full diagnostic picture. An endoscopic examination helps us visualize areas of your pet's body that may otherwise not be accessible without invasive surgery, especially the stomach, esophagus, areas of the intestine and airways.

An endoscope uses a rigid tube equipped with a lighted camera to transmit images to a monitor. This provides an up-close, detailed view of the pet's internal organs and allows for a more accurate diagnosis of GI disorders, cancer, polyps and other conditions. Endoscopic procedures are also useful in obtaining biopsy samples, particularly of the stomach, small intestine and colon. Endoscopy is helpful in removing foreign objects (toys, bones, etc.) from your pet's stomach or airways.

Anesthesia is required to keep your pet still during an endoscopic procedure. However, the amount of anesthesia is less than required for a major surgical procedure, and the patient can usually leave the same day.

Endoscopic procedures are performed in our hospital by Dr. Russell Greene, a board-certified veterinary internal medicine specialist.
