Wellness Care
Routine Examinations
Prevention is the key to keeping your pet healthy. All pets should undergo a routine wellness exam at least once a year, although more frequent exams are encouraged for older pets with chronic problems, or when health problems are noticed. Exams help us establish an overall picture of your pet's health and can help detect health problems and conditions in your pet before they become more difficult and more expensive to treat. We pride ourselves on being thorough and conscientious with each patient. We allow a minimum of 30 minutes per appointment so that we can provide a thorough physical exam and have time to discuss findings and treatment plans with you.
Vaccinations
Every pet is unique, especially when it comes to vaccinations. Age, lifestyle, risk of exposure and other factors must all be taken into account when your pet is vaccinated. The veterinarians at Scottsdale Ranch Animal Hospital work with you to develop a vaccine protocol that's tailored specifically for your pet. We provide 3-year vaccinations for dogs and cats for some diseases. We also offer annual vaccinations for some diseases. Client education is a key factor in regards to vaccinations, and we counsel you about potential risk factors and side effects associated with vaccines.
Microchipping
Pet identification is a must for keeping your beloved companion safe. But sometimes, a collar and identification tag are not enough if your pet is lost or missing. Microchipping your pet is a safe, effective way to help ensure that your pet returns home safely. A microchip is about the size and shape of a grain of rice. It is implanted beneath your pet's skin between the shoulder blades in a process similar to a vaccination. Every microchip is encoded with unique information about your pet. That information is stored in a national database. Veterinary hospitals and animal shelters throughout the country are equipped with special scanners capable of detecting and reading the data on a microchip. If your pet is lost, that data is used to reunite you and your pet.
Scottsdale Ranch Animal Hospital uses the HomeAgain microchip system. After microchipping your pet, we register your pet and enter his or her information into the HomeAgain database. Please ask our staff for more information about microchipping your pet.
DNA Testing
Have you ever wondered about the breed make-up of your mixed-breed dog? Are you curious about where your canine companion's boundless energy and curiosity comes from? Scottsdale Ranch Animal Hospital is proud to offer our clients DNA testing using the Wisdom Panel MX test. This test can identify your dog's breed mix from more than 130 American Kennel Club-recognized breeds. Knowing the breed gives insight into your pet's behavior and appearance and helps identify potential health problems associated with your dog's genetic background.
